| comments | Thank you for this page. Thank you for your courage. My Grandmother had MS. She lived for more than 50 years with it!! There is hope!! But to my point. I have had a really rough struggle for the past seven years (my story is on my page). And after arguing with doctors for all these years, I found the best medicine can be grown in the back yard. The only reason that all of the governments of the world have not legalized medical use, is that they are making too much money by keeping it illegal. They not only make money from the "busts" of marijuana, but all of the money that they get from the drug companies. There is no other reason. And it's about time that this changes!! KEEP UP THE FIGHT!! And hopefully the USA will follow Canada's lead. God Bless |

| comments | Hello Everyone. I apologize for the late entry on the absolutely atrocious act of violence that has so upset people of the world. We all talk of this: We never thought we would see this in OUR lifetime.... We at the Medical Marijuana Mission, as well as all of us involved in the issue of marijuana as medicine here in Canada, would like to express our sincere and heartfelt sympathies to our incredibly strong neighbours to the South, in the United States of America. We could never have imagined that this would actually become a part of our History, having had a number of smaller Wars already to help us dismiss the thought of the "BIG" one really coming. How people can believe in acts of violence and expect someone NOT to retaliate, is beyond words. We all know what is coming. Over 5,000 people have been murdered and injured because of a small group of very bad people we refer to as Terrorists. We need to come together, as so many have said already and behave as ONE race - the HUMAN race. Let us set a precedent by acting rationally. The World is watching. We are all holding our breath. We do not want Wold War III. Please help us to bring love, strength and compassion into this sad situation. God Bless all of those who are helping to find the souls that have been lost in all of this devastation. God Bless those who are helping out in ANY way. Do what you can. Write letters to your local Fire Department telling them how lucky you are to have them to protect you and how proud of them you are. Write your Police. Give Blood. Donate clothing. Donate food. | comments | hello,Alison.just wanted you to know that you are definatly having a possitive effect on Health canada.im just starting the process of getting the paper work filled out .wich is about 5 minutes of writing for a specialist.but it takes several months to see a specialist .to get these few,simple questions that would take my family doctor.[ whom i could get in to see in a couple of days.]the same 5 minutes to fill out my application.i just donot understand expecialy when my doctor already knows my 11 year history of being treated prettymuch as a ginneypig with all the, here try this pill and try this pill and this pill.oh oh having some majior side effects well then here, you have to take this pill too and it will help with the side effects from the other pills oh and id better give you a prescription for some cream for the skin rash.ive been prescribed by several doctors,specialist,over 300 different types of drugs. i have been prescribed the same 4 prescription pills and creams, and a couple of demeral shots and all the overthe counter drugs other crap,that i needed to help control some of the side effects from these pills.i was using about 900 pills a month like you alison. ive been using marijuana for about 7months . AND MARIJUANA DOSE WORK ive had no majior side effects from marijuana ,ive had nowithdrawls from all the pills ,i dont have any monies to get the marijuana that i need to keep me free from having to go back to these PEOPLE killing pills .ive already been DEAD for the past 11 years and ill tell you I love being Alive.and my wife and children love me being alive onceagain.Do you know why i have to go see a specialist when ihave alreaday pernamently toataly disabled,by 2 specialist and my doctor has all my medical history on file.i cant not only afford to go see a specialist and i live about 30 miles from the nearest town,but i cant afford to play russian roulett with my life and my familys anymore.if i have to take these fnkg pills ,ill probley go crazy,my wife is already starting to get scared because she knows what thes pills do to me .and ill end up falling into catagory #1 so if you could help me please let me know asap. Love and God bless Dave Now here's your up date.... 5-15-2001 The Daily Bulletin ran an article about the Supreme Justices decision that there is no medical justification for the use of marijuana. It was misquoted in saying that this decision disallows medical marijuana patients in California to use medical marijuana. I was appalled at this misrepresentation and called them to tell the truth. The Supremes decision in no way changed proposition 215, and that I am a marijuana patient and shall continue to grow, posses and use medical marijuana until my M.D. says otherwise. The reporter I was talking to (Mike Rappaport) asked if I would mind being interviewed. I said no and he came the next day with a photographer. The article is below, it came out on the front page of Sunday’s edition with color a picture of me in my garden. Daily Bulletin Article May 20, 2001 MAN MOVING TO CANADA OVER POT His backyard barbecue is rusting and the pool needs maintenance. A sign in the front yard lists the Ontario house for sale. It's something David Fawcett said was an unpleasant but necessary step. "We have lost everything," he said. "We're losing everything we own because of this." "This" is Fawcett's struggle with the law over his right to grow and use marijuana for medical purposes, a right seemingly ensured by the passage of Proposition 215 in November 1996. His struggle will ultimately send him to Canada, where he says he can live and practice his trade as a toolmaker and machinist while still using marijuana to help alleviate the pain from his medical problems. In a time when Californians - and many Americans in general - have become more tolerant of the medical uses of marijuana, Fawcett, 45, says the country's "drug war" mentality has ruined his life. His problems began in the early '80s when he was diagnosed with shingles, a viral disease that results in periodic blisters along the nerve paths. His doctor at the time prescribed cortisone shots and codeine pills, but the side effects caused other problems. "Too many cortisone shots would weaken my bones," Fawcett said. "And when I took the codeine, I couldn't work at my job." Several years later, a doctor told Fawcett he couldn't prescribe anything officially, but suggested that if he had access to marijuana, he should smoke it. "It was before (Proposition) 215 had passed, and he took me aside," Fawcett said. "He said, 'If it works, keep doing it, but don't tell anyone I told you.'" It worked, so he kept doing it. He found that it made a significant difference in reducing his pain. When Proposition 215 passed in 1996, he thought of getting a compassionate use certificate from his original doctor. That doctor had moved back to Iraq and was no longer available. It didn't matter until Oct. 15, 1999, when San Bernardino County's special West End Narcotics Enforcement Team, armed with assault rifles and wearing body armor, raided his home. They arrested him for cultivation and possession of marijuana for sale and confiscated the plants he had been growing. "They killed my dog too," Fawcett said. "She was 19 years old and no threat, but they sprayed her with pepper spray, and she had a stroke and died." He fought the charges, but was convicted and sentenced to 90 days in jail. He then went through a comedy of errors when he showed up to serve his time with four marijuana cigarettes in his pocket. The bailiff threatened him with arrest for trying to smuggle marijuana into jail, but he presented a certificate he had obtained in January 2000 from a Northern California doctor that said the marijuana was his medication. In the end, the court stayed his sentence rather than let him take drugs into the jail. "Ever since the raid, my life has gone to hell," Fawcett said. "I haven't been able to get a job because I'm a convicted felon, and if we aren't able to sell our house soon, we will lose it." He has become something of a crusader for the medical marijuana movement. That's why he was so disappointed Monday when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that federal law does not allow a "medical necessity" exemption from laws against the distribution of marijuana. The ruling didn't overturn Proposition 215, but it did make it more difficult for so-called "cannabis clubs" to operate under federal law. Writing for the majority, Justice Clarence Thomas said that marijuana has "no currently accepted medical use." The decision does not affect those accused of cultivating marijuana under state law, said Richard Maxwell, San Bernardino County's chief deputy district attorney. "We're still in the process of evaluating the decision," Maxwell said. "But anyone growing even one plant is violating the law. In the past, they have been able to use 'medical necessity' as a possible defense. They can still do that in state court, but the feds could turn around and prosecute them under federal law." California law distinguishes between possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use (a misdemeanor with no jail time possible), possession of larger amounts (a regular misdemeanor) and cultivation or possession for sale (a felony). "When law enforcement officials ask us about the law, we tell them that possession of marijuana is still a federal violation," Maxwell said. "But we are not responsible for enforcing federal law." It's the state law against cultivation that got Fawcett into trouble, even though he insists he never sold any and he only grew marijuana for himself and a close friend who also has a doctor's certificate. "I had never been arrested in my life," he said. "I never even had a moving violation. I'm very law abiding. I do not break laws. Now all of a sudden, I'm a convicted felon. A felony for gardening? Give me a break." Fawcett's goal in telling his story, he says, is to show that marijuana is more than "Reefer Madness" and Cheech and Chong movies. "This is an herb given to man by God that men have been using for 6,000 years," he said. "People need to be educated about how nontoxic marijuana is compared to some of the drugs my doctors were giving me." Despite all that, despite notoriety that has gotten him the attention of pro-cannabis groups such as NORML and the American Medical Marijuana Association, Fawcett has grown weary of the fight. Once his house is sold, he says he and wife, Rosa, will leave California. "We're going to move to Canada," he said. "They offer clemency - if you have a skill, they'll take you in. And marijuana is 100 percent legal in British Columbia. They sell it in coffee shops. "We have got to get past this drug-war mentality in this country, especially when it comes to marijuana. The so-called 'drug war' has ruined so many people's lives." - --- MAP posted-by: Richard Lake Please be advised here, I did not say I was moving to Canada. This was taken totally out of context, I just mentioned that others like me were seeking refuge there. I am still on probation and can’t leave California. Evidently this article rattled some cages at Ontario Police Department and their narcotics dept. because the following occurred… 5-23-2001 At approximately 10:30 A.M. I left my home to go to my doctor appointment (Dr. Bryan P. Chan 1148 San Bernardino Rd. Upland, CA. 91786-4943, and Tel. (909) 932-1045). I was pulled over by an Ontario black and white as soon as I left Cucamonga St and turned left at Walnut Ave. I pulled over on to Bon View and got out my driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance. When the officer approached my car, I asked what the problem was. He informed me that I had stopped past the white line at Cucamonga St. but soon discovered this was just an excuse to stop me. There were several other officers there from Ontario narcotics and ordered the uniformed officer to handcuff me and return me to my home to do a probation search. I had no problem with this because I knew I had done nothing illegal. Upon reaching my home, several more plain clothed officers showed up. I was in the back of the black and white with all the windows rolled up in extreme heat as I watched them all strap on their side arms and vests. They asked me if there was anyone in the house and I told them no, but they needed to have all this equipment anyway. I told them I had a dog in the back yard and offered to put her in the garage while they do there investigation but they refused. I don’t know how long I was locked in the back of this car as I went in and out on a conscious state from the heat and all the windows rolled up (hi 80’s – lo 90’s, outside). I did hear my dog crying with pain from the back yard as they did whatever to her. There was a plain clothed officer outside the car guarding me and I asked him to at least roll down a window. He peered in and smiled as he said “Sorry, I don’t have the keys”. By now I was in a pool of my own sweat and very uncomfortable. I guess I must have passed out, because when they finally opened the door I awoke wondering what the heck they were trying to do here. Then they told me that I was in violation of the law by growing my own medical marijuana. I tried to tell them I not only had a legal recommendation from my M.D. in my wallet, but also in my wallet was a copy of the court minutes dated 7-05-2000 stating that Judge Cole had allowed me to posses medical marijuana pursuant to HandS 11362.5. They did not care and arrested me stating that they were federal officers’ maintaing a federal law. I tried to again explain to them about proposition 215 (compassionate use act of 1996) but they refused to listen. They began to speak with a mentality so low that I could not get through to them and decided to stop trying, as I knew it would all come out in court, maybe. Hopefully! Well, it didn’t before, but what are the chances of that happening again? and#61514; 5-23-2001 Another article in the Daily Bulletin appeared with a picture of an officer with all my plants in the police station… Daily Bulletin Article Published May 23, 2001 MARIJUANA BUST IN ONTARIO YIELDS 38 PLANTS ONTARIO -- A man featured in an article Sunday about his struggles with marijuana laws was arrested Tuesday after narcotics officers found 38 pot plants at his home, police said. Ontario police staked out the home of David Fawcett, 45, at 9 a.m. Tuesday and pulled him over after he got into his pickup truck about two hours later, said Ontario Police Detective Mike Macias. Police came to Fawcett's residence in the 1100 block of East Bermuda Dunes Street after speaking with San Bernardino County Probation Department officials about their plans to search his home. A search of his backyard turned up 35 pot plants ranging from 4 inches to 4 1/2-feet-tall and three smaller plants in pots by Fawcett's pool, Macias said. Fawcett, who was on felony probation from a prior drug conviction, was booked in West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and cultivating the drug. Police began researching Fawcett's background after a front page article about him appeared in the Daily Bulletin, Macias said. Fawcett, who contacted the paper to be interviewed about his problems with marijuana laws, was featured in a story about a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down the medical necessity defense for marijuana use in federal proceedings. Fawcett said he uses marijuana to ease the pain he suffers from having shingles, a viral disease that results in periodic blisters along the nerve paths. "He did present a form letter from a doctor's office in Cool, Calif. that had his name and that he was authorized to use marijuana for medicinal purposes, but they forgot to put the illness on the letter," Macias said. However, police said that such forms can easily be obtained for a nominal fee. The marijuana magazine "High Times" has advertisements for formal-looking documents that "authorize" people to use marijuana for medical purposes, he said. Ontario detectives who researched Fawcett's background discovered he was on felony probation for a marijuana cultivation conviction, Macias said. According to reports, San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies in October 1999 seized two shotguns, a .22-caliber rifle a .30-06-caliber rifle, a 9 mm handgun and a .44 Magnum handgun in addition to pot plants from Fawcett's home, Macias said. He called to congratulate me on the DA’s office’s decision to not press charges on the basis that I am a bona fide medical marijuana patient. Also, upon further investigation there was no evidence that I was selling marijuana. I was happy to hear this, but at the same time a little disappointed. I was already to do battle in the court. Gabby (my daughter) took me out to lunch at Sizzler where she worked in Ontario. Upon arrival we saw a few Ontario police officers there. I noticed that one of them was the one who arrested me. When I pointed him out to Gabby, she said, “he’s the father of her daughter” (my granddaughter). When we got home I re-read my arrest report and sure enough, his name is listed as the arresting officer. As asked by Dave Kocot to speak at a libertarian meeting in Colton that evening, I told of my arrest and how I thought it all stemmed from my daughter’s encounter with Ontario police officer Josh Burks. 6-13-2001 This morning I was awoke by another phone call. This time it was from a talk radio program (KFI). This guy asked how I felt about Ontario detective turning my case over to the DEA. I hadn’t heard of this, and he told me it was on the front page of today’s Daily Bulletin. I called Marvin Chavez and e-mailed Dr. Jay Cavanaugh to let them know in case I showed up missing. I went to get a copy and found it to be true. Now I am worried again that I may now be facing a federal prison term for something a superior court judge, the voters of California and my doctor all said I could do. By GENE MADDAUS / GENE.MADDAUS@LATIMES.COM ONTARIO -- The San Bernardino County district attorney's office declined to file charges against David Fawcett, a crusader for medical marijuana who says he uses the drug to treat shingles and clinical depression. Chief Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard Maxwell said he made the decision June 7, after reviewing a previous case in which Judge Dennis Cole ruled Fawcett was allowed to possess marijuana under the Compassionate Use Act. The act allows patients to cultivate and possess marijuana for medical reasons. Fawcett, 45, was arrested May 22 after police officers saw a newspaper story and photographs of his marijuana plants. Officers seized his plants as evidence. He could still face prosecution under federal law. The case has been referred to the Drug Enforcement Agency, Ontario Police Det. Mike Macias said. Police were hoping the case would give state judges a chance to clarify the law, which passed in a 1996 statewide referendum. "The law is not well-written," Macias said. "We felt it was a good test case, and that the courts should give more definitive guidelines to law enforcement." Macias said the definition of a valid medical condition is vague. After his release, Fawcett planted new plants, but he began digging them up Thursday morning on the advice of an attorney. Fawcett said he hopes the federal government won't overrule Cole's decision. "I don't see how they can go through with that," Fawcett said. "I know these guys are out to get me." He said he got the prescription to use marijuana depression after trying Zoloft, which only made things worse. "Marijuana works for me. I'm going to continue using it while I have it," Fawcett said. "If not, I'll go off in a hole and die somewhere." Copyright 2001 Los Angeles Times 6-15-2001 I called Narcotics Officer Kevin Dempster (he seemed to be the controlling officer at my home on 5-22). I asked him if he had heard the DA was not going to pursue this case. He knew of this so I asked for my property to be returned. He said “the marijuana has been turned over to the DEA to open a federal case on you”, But I can call evidence to get my folder back containing all the paperwork from my first case, that for some reason they took from my home that day. So I called evidence and they said to meet the evidence officer in the lobby of Ontario Police Department at 4:30 today. I got there at 4:15 and announced myself. I was told “they are on their way and to have a seat”. While waiting there an elderly man came in wanting to know if anything was being done about his home being robbed a few weeks ago. He had already filed a complaint and fingerprints were taken from the scene. The officer behind the counter and bullet-proof glass explained to him in a very rude tone “Sir, it takes a week for a detective to be assigned to the case, and then a few more for him to gather evidence to write his report”. I really felt sorry for this old guy. His wife’s jewelry, her clothes, his tools and his jewelry were all gone after many years of marriage. At this point I wanted to jump up and announce how all the police’s resources were being spent at my house for pulling plants, (8 officers when I was there). But he was a wise old man. He told this counter jockey policewoman “Ma’am, I’ve been around for a long time, and I have come to trust my instincts”. “They hardly ever let me down”. “Right now, what I gather from what you are saying, is that I am NOT a priority”. “Am I wrong?” “What’s the matter, Can’t you even answer a yes or no question?” Then he just left. Anyway, at 5:00 the she cop at the counter informed me that the evidence officer has just left and should be here soon. I wonder what they would do if I was a half-hour late for something THEY calendared for a specific time. Well at 5:15 the evidence officer finally made it. She apologized and told me she had to call someone to open a stuck door for her. She even showed me the grease on her hands where she tried to open it herself, poor thing! :-( I got my folder back minus a zip-loc baggie with an Oakland Cannabis Rx sticker on it. It was a souvenir, my first “club bought bag of medicine”, but I guess they needed it more than me. 6-16-2001 Rosa and I went to West Wood L.A. for Peter McWilliams vigil. Met Dr. Jay Cavanaugh, wife Nancy, Rick Root, Jack Herer and several others. Hal and Lucy brought enough signs for everyone. It was a success (no arrests or fights). There were several motorists honking and waving as they passed us on the front lawn of the Federal Bldg. on Whilshire Blvd., in favor of the cause. Got lost on the way home. Found a freeway that wasn’t on the map (I-105). Wound up doing a big U-turn in Watts and headed back to the right way home. 6-18-2001 Andrea Nagy faxed my cases where homeowners insurance has paid claim out to marijuana patients when police have illegally seized it. I can’t find my policy, going to ask Rosa when she gets home. I finally get it from her and it does in fact cover “Plants, Trees and Shrubs for up to $500.00 each. I called my company and told them what happened. They assigned a claim number (#128629) and said someone will contact me within 24 hours. 6-19-2001 My homeowners insurance called and took a description of what happened and said they would call back, again. He also told me there is a $6,000.00 limit. Dr. Chan’s office called with a referral to Dr. David S. Robbin (555 n. 13th Ave. Upland, 909-982-8846) for the problem I’ve been having with my eyes since being locked up in the police car. (hi 80’s to low 90’s with all the windows up for 30-40 minutes). So I go see him Friday 6-22 @ 3:00 P.M. 6-20-2001 Received overnight letter from A. Nagy. She typed up a 5 pg. | comments | After reading the below, I too believe that Terry Parker blew it for himself. As well, his lawyer appears to me to have put Terry's interest behind his own. I feel sorry for Terry Parker to have "lead the way" for all of us only to be done in because of his choice of lawyer. It appears to me also that his lawyer would not be willing "to go all the way" unless of course it is extremely well financed. I champion the "engineer,author,med pot activist" below for his relentless fight for all of us "first" and monatary gains well below on his priority list. The following is from Med Pot: Last year, the Ontario Court of Appeal ordered that the Government of Canada give Terry Parker and others with a legitimate need access to marijuana or the prohibition laws would be struck down. There were three possible scenarios: a) Health Canada do not change the access rules in one year; b) Health Canada make the access rules easier; c) Health Canada make the access rules harder. a) Of course, if they did not change the access rules, then the consequence of the Parker decision would be...; b) if they did make access easier, then the question would be whether they made it easy enough to comply with the Court ruling; c) if they made access harder, it would be the same consequence as not having changed the rules at all... Everyone is complaining that Health Canada did not make access easier, they did not leave access the same, they actually made access to marijuana harder. Now consider that in the actual case of Terry Parker himself, Health Canada failed to grant him an exemption. That's right. The first guy they had to provide access for and they forgot. And it's too late to fix. The year to provide access to our poster boy is up. Terry Parker asked his lawyer Aaron Harnett to call me about what I wanted to know about his case. When he did, the first thing I said was that I was glad I got the chance to speak to him because we're all curious whether or not Terry wins. Harnett answered "Good question. I don't know. I have no idea." (1) I guess if he hadn't thought of asking himself, it might seem a good question. I suggested that it was up to him to ask. Terry is the only guy in country who has to ask whether Health Canada blew it or not. Perhaps it was all our little pin-pricks that caused Jody Gomber and her staff to over-react in the wrong direction and forget that to avoid an end to prohibition, they had to make it easier for Terry, didn't they? He said "Yes. See, one of the issues though, charging into court and saying "Here are new regs, do they conform? "The trouble is it's really expensive. So, that's the first thing." No kidding. Sure, him getting paid may the first priority on his mind but finishing the case by getting the answer officially would be my priority and his getting paid would be it's the last thing. I asked if they weren't already on the spot? Again he responded "But for one, it's real expensive. Nobody charges into the Court of Appeal without having spent about 300 hours in preparation." I told him I have many times. I'm actually well-known in the Court of Appeal for quick action. He pointed out there's a difference. He goes in a little bit differently than your average lawyer. And I'd bet a lot more slowly, for sure. This guy needs 300 Hours of paid preparation before he can ask "Did I win?" I pointed out he might miss a grand opportunity here that's going to pass to somebody else because Barry Burkholder was going to be in Federal Court on Monday morning and ask. He said Barry was welcome to it but he wasn't jumping up and down at the opportunity to spend another 500 hours on "an issue that I've already won, right?" I said no, you haven't won it. That's my whole point. I know I think you won it but you haven't got them to dot the "i"s and cross the "t"s. So he tried another way of looking at it and told me to think strategically for a moment. Here he is telling me, Canada's top court- certified expert witness in the Mathematics of Gambling, to think strategically when I'm used to thinking strategically and tactically at the same time and he probably doesn't even know the difference between the two. Why should a guy who barely scrapped through high school math think he knows anything about game theory mathematics of thinking strategically? He said that since the Court of Appeal said some incredible things in the Parker decision, the high-water mark being for the constitutional eligibility, if you then go back to them and give them a chance to water down their original decision, they will do it. If you avoid going back to that court and go into a different court on a different day, it's not for a different court to water down what the Court of Appeal said. So, in his experience, they've put a lot of thought into what they want to do, how they want to follow this up. But if they give the Court of Appeal a chance to water down its own judgment, it's their belief that they will water it down. I pointed out not if you ask them for a "Yes or No." Just a "Yes" or a "No" to the question you have framed. He thought that was unrealistic. "We don't tell them what to write." You can if you're saying it on National TV. I pointed out that "I'm not a real lawyer so I can do stuff like that." He noted it didn't mean I was going to win. I mentioned that I do and he said "Well Mr. Turmel, with the greatest respect, you know what, I'm not impressed by your legal credentials. Of course, when he said "with the greatest respect," I knew he was lawying. But I admitted that I don't have any legal credentials. He found my interest in the issue "very cute" but when you're dealing with this stuff at this level, you take into account strategic considerations and as a courtesy, he was outlining the thinking of the people for me. What's funny is that he thinks his being at "this level" of the Court of Appeal is high. I've personally argued in the Supreme Court of Canada five times and prepared 5 more cases for others. So I wasn't too impressed by the "this level" he was impressed with being on. And we know his Number One strategic consideration, that is to do nothing until someone pays him some more money to do it. I hate it when lo-techs who barely squeaked through high school math use words like strategic when it's unlikely they even know the difference between tactical and strategic considerations, let alone have to math to measure them. Speaking of strategic thinking, notice I pinned him strategically for all time on my very first question! The strategically winning question was "Did he win" and strategically, the lawyer didn't know. Within one question, I knew and he knew that I'm talking about something he never even thought of. And then a little later, he says that strategic considerations force him to protect what he's won. Of course, what he's won is the fame and notoriety of putting forward Terry's case. Terry actually winning something useful isn't of interest to him since it adds nothing to his symbolic victory. He wants to use the little things he won in Parker in his other cases where they can't over-rule the higher court. Finishing Terry's case now gives him nothing new at all. But going for Terry's win can lose him those goodies in the other cases so it's safer for him to take full advantage of the little tactical well-paying stuff even if Terry never actually gets his win certified or not. I told him that when you are that close to victory, to not snatch it and make it official on the grounds you think they are going to regress means you can't handle yourself in court. He had a win in your hands. At this point, typical coward who can dish it out but can't take, he wants to hang up because "I don't see being insulted by you." He can insult me for only having an applied science degree in electrical engineering and not having any lawying credentials but when I insulted him for being incompetent with his credentials, he starts running. I could just point out that not only was he incompetent, he was also irresponsible to have a grand opportunity here to finish your job for your client and not do it so he could milk his other clients with the reputation for having won the Parker case that he earlier admitted he didn't know if he'd won. Don't shysters make you sick. I laughed at him saying "You don't have an answer for Terry, right? You agreed earlier you didn't have the answer yet on the case, so how can you stop when all you've got to do is ask?" So the money-grubbing shyster ran away and hung up. It's okay for him to insult my legal credentials but it's not okay for me to insult his legal performance. He can dish it out but can't take it. But we know his first priority, getting money, and his second priority is not losing what he everyone thinks he won even if he knows it might not be true. Poker players have a name for guys like this who win a small pot and then play scared for the rest of game. The easiest kind to beat. "Did Terry win?" or as he put it "Do they conform?" And his answer was a clear: "Good question. I don't know. I have no idea." And he doesn't want to know. But I know that when they didn't give Parker access, they blew prohibition for everyone. After only 1 episode(???)and much persuasion my Neuro agreed to Rx Betaseron even tho' it wasn't yet "APPROVED" for Progressive MS( brave guy!)So, I am still ambulatory with a cane, still driving,but not working - the fatigue is overwhelming! Last Spring, staying with a friend in B.C., I tried marijuana for the first time. It was recommended to me because of its "benefits" for MS. One of my major problems with MS is my tb (tiny bladder)which results in two-hourly trips to the bathroom during the night. After I smoked one joint, I slept straight through for 8 hours much to my surprise (and before you ask, no, the bed wasn't wet!!!) Medications. Both my neurologist and my family physician have prescribed a variety of anti-spasmodic medications for my dysuria, e.g., Ditropan, Detrol, etc. which (a) haven't made any difference to the condition and (b) the side effects were intolerable, i.e., constipation, gastritis, and so on. However, my family physician was horrified at the suggestion that marijuana could solve the problem and so was totally unsympathetic to filling in the forms to get me an exemption. I intend to persist with both my family physician and my neurologist to apply for a medical exemption for marijuana use. My question to you is, if I am successful, how do I then go about acquiring the marijuana??? I know that there are "Compassion Clubs" and there is supposed to be one in Montreal, but I can't find an email address or a telephone number or anything. For the last four years I have been distressed from a puzzling malady as well (weakness, numbness on left side, tremors). I wish that I could smoke marijuana for this, unfortunately I become extremely paranoid when I have done this. It isn't for me, but I believe the gov't should be more compliant with those who find relief from marijuana. There is indeed alot of prejudice concerning it. Your appeal is worthy and I hope you realize your goals in relation to our government! God speed ! Bill W. |

I think the best thing to do is to legalize it in Ontario and then take a step further...legalize it around Canada. Look at Amsterdam, for example, their crime rates have decreased since they legalized marijuana. If they legalize it here crime on drugs will decrease too, people like me who are clinically depressed will have better days...I could go on but I have to get back to my daily routine. Yesterday evening I saw your (Alison's) message on CityTV and when you (she) mentioned depression and related benefits of marijuana, I knew I have to call my wife's doctor and ask him for prescription. Also, last Thursday I saw on news (CBC's National?) that some committee recommends use of marijuana in some cases. Didn't think much of this drug until now, but it seams like a good start. I just told someone today to go to G.W. Pharmaceuticals (the U.K Cannabis Project) and got to "patient area". Well, poof...it's gone. Seems now they call this area "Theraputic Applications" . | comments | Hello Gary, Alison and all, Just got out of jail again. I was arresrted for cultivation after a local paper did an article on me with pictures of me in my garden. Evidently it upset local narcotics officers and they needed an ego boost. They refused to consider my note from the judge allowing me to use medical marijuana under H and S code 11362.5. And when I showed them my doctors recommendation they said anyone can copy one of these and it has no validity with them. So once again I am out of medication and will have to go through the whole process again in the courts. Kinda glad I've already been through it, cause now I know what to expect and how to deal with it. The mentality of these police is scary. I can't believe we pay these young lads with our tax dollars to keep coming to my home to steal my medicene. But I suppose it's a lot eaiser to arrest a gardener than actually go after some real criminals. Oh Well, Here I go again, wish me luck! I'll keep you posted when I can. | comments | hi alison, glad to hear your story online. i phoned you yesterday regarding a section 56. i suffer from fms and a seizure disorder (or so the neurologist thinks i might-she's not sure). i have an appt tomorrow with my rheumatologist and a pain specialist. i've been out of work (and licence to drive removed) for 8 months and i'm going stir crazy-when i have the mobility to do so. i have had several meds-some i was allergic to, several had very nasty side effects-requiring more meds to boot. this sucks the big one. i have been smoking cannibas for medicinal reasons, and most of my doctors think it's ok, except that they are afraid to put their signature on paper for the med cannibas app. if i dont get some help soon, i'm gonna crack up. not to mention that my wife and i buried our son last week. the pressure is way up there, and the health insurance at work has denied my appeal of LTD. u can imagine the extra pain that stress caused to fibromyalgia syndrome. i dont know where to turn, and i'm becoming quite frustrated. in fact, i'm afraid i'm gonna blow up on someone-probably a doctor or two. i could use some clarity, perhaps direction to focus my energies. anything u can do to help, would be most appreciated. u can reach me at 905 632-9951. p.s.-nice wedding photo, but i dont recall u mentioning your husbands name. thanks, randy clarke |

Brian to get involved Below is a brief history of Brian Carlisle; Between 1985 and 1987, while living in the state of New Hempshire, USA, I became active in the study into the palliative care using marijuana in the treatment of glaucoma and multiple sclerosis. At that time my mother Shirley Carlisle, who also suffers from Glaucoma, and my aunt Bernice Snape, who suffers from Multiple sclerosis, were both being considered for Dartmouth University’s ongoing Medical Marijuana Research Program for those conditions. On April 14, 1994, I was the victim of a brutal assault while visiting with my parents in Hope, British Columbia, which left me with permanent vision loss, chronic pain in my head, a severely damaged and deviated sinus cavity, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and other various injuries. On April 18, 1994, Dr. L.A. Balisky, an expert in the practice of ophthalmology, determined that I now had elevated intra-ocular pressure (glaucoma) in my right eye. Further to his diagnosis it was his recommendation that I should treat my condition with his prescriptions for Betagan, Ocufen and Prednisone. I notified him that I choose to use marijuana instead to treat my condition. He responded that “its illegal”, and that he would not be willing to prescribe medicinal marijuana for me. Irregardless, I continued to treat my glaucoma and other medical conditions with marijuana, all the while fully aware and conscious that even without a prescription, section 7 of the Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms provided me with the autonomous responsibility of insuring the fundamental protection of my person, which in this case, is the protection of my physical health. Also Section 2(a) of the Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms i.e.: “The Supremacy Of God” referred to in the preamble also afforded me the right to use marijuana for my religious/spiritual, and faith healing purposes. I thereby knew that if I were ever charged with a drug-related offence, section 24(1) of the Charter would provide me with protection and interim exemptive relief to continue the use until legislation came about, and now it has. On June 20, 1996 her Majesty the Queen assented to, and the Canadian government did pass in to law, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, chapter 19 of the consolidated Statutes of Canada. Under this new legislation, section 56 even further empowered my de facto exemption, but the guidelines for applying and receiving a medical exemption were not enacted until June 1999. On June 9th 1999 Health Canada put forward a research plan for marijuana for medicinal purposes. Part 7 of said document lays out Health Canada’s plan of securing a government source of marijuana.. It was this plan with which the Holy Smoke Healing Center was created, and its goal was to become the official marijuana supplier to Health Canada once legislated. On October 5, 1999, the Mission RCMP seized the Holy Smoke’s medicinal marijuana from Randy Wilde’s residence at 32930 Cardinal St. Mission BC. On October 8th 1999 I became aware of the seizure, and immediately left a message with Mission RCMP Inspector Peter Calvert formally notifying him of the wrongful arrest and seizure, and that if he was not going to return the marijuana, then it was imperative that the seized marijuana not be left in bags because it was perishable and likely to depreciate rapidly. On October 11th 1999 I spoke with Mission RCMP Inspector Peter Calvert personally over the telephone, and advised him, that the medicinal marijuana was intended to be used as a supply for Health Canada to be distributed to members of the Holy Smoke Healing Center and other sick people across Canada, but he stated “it is in Crown’s hands” and therefore we would have to seek an order for the return of the medicinal marijuana which I have been doing in court since. Between September 1999 and February 2000 I made several telephone and electronic-mail section 56 exemption requests with Carol Bouchard of Health Canada for a medical exemption on behalf of the Holy Smoke Healing Center, as a class of people, but alas I have never received any reply to. On February 18th 2000 2 (two) of the Holy Smoke Healing Center’s members Donald Lavallee and Bonnie Lavallee received a letter from the Director general of Health Canada Dann M. Michols requesting them to participate in a workshop on the uses of marijuana for medical purposes and on the section 56 exemption process. Subsequently, On February 28th 2000 I on behalf of Holy Smoke also was invited by the Director General of Health Canada to participate as a stakeholder in the workshop. While I was in Ottawa the hotel I stayed at provided me a special room where I was permitted to medicate with marijuana 24 hours a day. On May 4th 2000 the Holy Smoke Healing Center began bidding on the 5 year contract put out by Public Works and Government services Canada to cultivate and fabricate marijuana for Health Canada, Later that month Holy Smoke withdrew its bid, when Health Canada amended the contract to grow a non medicinal grade of marijuana of 5% THC or less. Finally on April 6, 2001 the federal government will provide regulations for medical use of marijuana, and one of the soon to be licensed organizations will be, pre-existing compassion clubs, such as the Holy Smoke. | comments | I am a 25 year old woman living with fibromyalgia and chronic headaches and migraines. I have been on so many pain killers that I can't even remember all of them. I have a long list of medications I take on a daily basis. Muscle relaxers, anti-depressants for pain, depression and sleep, ibuprofen - all in all I take 42 pills a day. So naturally I am afraid to put the Lortabs, Fioricets, Morphines, blah blah blah's down me for every ache and pain considering I ALWAYS hurt. That's when marijuana came into my life. Not only do I get instant relief from the majority of my pain, I am finally relaxed, and I don't have to fear I am going to have a freak interaction with my regular medications and my pain killers. Sometimes I even think "There is a reason to go on with my life" just knowing that I have a piece of heaven on earth. Unfortunantly it's illegal and I don't understand why. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis over 15 years ago, I have lived with chronic pain until I found Marijuana. I recieved my prescription for cannibis just over a year ago, and became a member of the Vancouver Compasion club not long afterwards. | comments | Its seems that the greatest problems facing those of us trying to apply for an exemption is the medical community. People like myself who can not educate our doctors due to their beliefs. I have sent out e-mails looking for a doctor who is educated in the med use of marijuana but no luck so far. I know I would qualify, just as hundreds of other Canadians would. Its just those damn doctors. Without the doctors support you will not get an exemption period. Your application will be imcomplete. To set matters straight, I am not looking for a "pot doc". Us people just want a fair evaluation of our med conditions and prescripton drugs from a doctor who is aware of med marijuana and its many uses. With the doctor shortage in Ontario it is impossible to doctor shop as doctors are refusing new patients. This situation makes it even more frustrating for people like me. If any body out there in Southern Ontario whow knows a doctor willing to help plse post it on this site. For those Compassion Clubs out there, plse help and post doctors names or at least release the names of doctors via e-mail request. | comments | Greetings. I was watching Speakers' corner earlier this evening and saw the segment from Alison. I decided to view the site and see what you have going on. This site has a lot of good information and I definetely learned a few things about the path of a medical marijuana smoker. I am amazed to hear of how little time it took Alison to have authorization or exemption. Congratulations! I read the story of the many varieties of pills to which she used to be prescribed. My father was in a car accident almost 4 years ago. He endures constant pain and has been prescribed a plethora of pain killers. He occasionally smokes pot that he recieves as gifts from friends(or so he tells me). I have been encouraging him to search for alternative methods of treatment(ie.massage therapy, etc.). He seems to have given up on venturing too much further into any "new" kinds of therapy. I also have smoked with my father and am happy that he doesn't have to pop a prescription pill to relieve him of his pain(never mind the damage to his liver). I am a social smoker. My boyfriend and I smoke together and generally on weekends. I do not consider myself addicted but I do know some people that smoke too much. I like to view the most fabulous pics in "High Times" magazine, and any tips included as well. I enjoyed the Gallery on this site and how when the arrow was on the pic it changed to another pic, similar to a hologram. That's all for now. Keep me posted and keep up the good work! |

So many people can be helped with this natural, God made plant, and yet, the people who need it the most are lost in the wide, gapping hole of beaucracy. Having been a long time smoker myself (fortunately not for medical purposes), I feel the legalization of marijuana would end the millions of dollars just pissed away, and could be used more productively, where society needs it most. You damn politicians, quite living in fear, and hear the rest of us! |

| comments | The recent Horseshoe Tavern benefit concert for Neil Exall has brought to light again the injustice of government regulation of medical marijuana and it's association with crime. All the suffering in the world will not deny the government the opportunity to moralize on what constitutes a criminal. A simple plant whose character is closer to nature in both it's complexity and completeness is deemed illegal by the greater ignorance of a misguided state.Hemp and all it's varieties is this victim. Yet the real drug barons who are generally feable on morals and whose crimes will go unpunished (namely the giant pharmacutical companies and law enforcement corporations) ravish our culture with legal junkies and degenerates who have evolved through it's mechanisim of the medical profession. While socity feared the Orwellian 1984 world of Big Brother; we were caught by Huxley's Brave New World and the soma opiate that devoured it. If we are to evolve beyond this perverse image of right and wrong we must recognise that a simple plant is not capable of evil in itself. In the hands of any person; all things can be both life giving and life threating. It takes an enlightened mind to distinguish between the two. |

I was an Escapee tonight...;o) Where to begin...Steven Bacon, (Federal Medical Marijuana Exemptee) set the atmosphere for the evening with a FABULOUS Speech on Medical Marijuana, his Section 56 Exemption, Caregiver Immunity, Whole Plant Medicine and a number of other very important branches of this Medical Issue. People were in full support by the time I then sat down and explained MY story and our need for the Government of Canada to LISTEN to us as sick and disabled Canadians. I must admit, I myself was VERY SURPRISED and extremely impressed, when we could literally hear a pin drop during some of the speeches. We could not have asked for a better and more caring or compassionate Audience. Thank you to ALL of those who attended tonight - (they certainly couldn't have done it without YOU )!! At one point people were buying so MANY Raffle Tickets, they had to ask us to announce they were stopping !! Can you believe it ??? Talk about Supporting the Issue !!! AMAZING Prizes were given away ALL nite long !! An Event of GRAND proportion ! GOOD JOB PEOPLE ! I am thoroughly proud and VERY honored to have been asked to come to this very worthwhile event tonight, to share my experiences with MY Disease and Marijuana as Medicine. How many fights have you seen break out just because somebody was on marijuana? How many car accidents have happened due to only marijuana? What % of people in countries where marijuana is legal or tolerated (ex. Amsterdam, Jamaica) use hard drugs such as heroin or cocaine? If you don't know the answer to any of these questions chances are you're one of the closed minded idiots who doesn't even know the facts about marijuana but agrees that it should remain illegal. With so many pros and so few cons why does it remain illegal? I'll tell you why...my belief is because the majority of the people running the country are closed minded, uninformed, and probably never smoked a joint in there life. I'm willing to bet that if America had a nationwide vote, not just registered voters who decided to show up that day to vote, but a vote from EVERYONE in the country marijuana would win legalization by a landslide, I thought a democracy was a government of the people. Thanks to all and the presence of the Orange County Patient Doctor Nurse Support Group and Cannabis Co-Op for showing up at my court day. I truly believe that all above mentioned had a lot to do with the judges decission in letting me go again. Now the judge wants to see a note from my M.D. explaining that I DO need marijuana every day to keep healthy. He has reviewed my M.D.'s rec and just wants comformation. This should be no problem. When he sees it I think he will have to suspend my sentence since the jail won't allow my medication in their facility. This will also provide me with enough time to get my data together for appellate court. Things are looking bright thanks to the sudden outpouring of moral support. Last time I told you about how the court sentenced me to a work program for doing what my M.D. had recommended and was supposidly legal under prop. 215. Then my health worsened because of the hard slave labor they had me doing. After serving half of my 90 day sentence, I was feeling pretty bad and the work crew boss noticed. He sent me home with credit for that day and told me to get some rest and report back the next day ready for work. I took the oppotunity to go see our new doctor (wifes HMO changed again). He ordered me not to return to work until further notice, so I called the jail to let them know. They said I was already in violation of my court order and must return to the judge to plea my case. I returned to the judge and he gave me a while to get better, but now I have emphyzema and that is no better. I showed the judge the note from my M.D. stating that I not return to work, but this has nop effect on the judge. I was ordered to return to the work program on 1-7-2001. I went to re-book myself and they turned me away because of my illness and also wouldn't even accept me into custody as a prisoner because of my medical marijuana necessity. Now once again I must go back to the judge to find out what kind of punishment he will render. All because I obeyed my M.D. The way I figure this is, This is the governments way of weeding out the sick. I guess I am a disposable individual. Words of wisdom - If you get sick in S. Computer literate - I am not !! Thank you to all out there for your tremendous support and encouragement. The strength you give me is incredible !! | comments | Great site! I have been dealing with chronic pain due to two lower back operations, the second being not as sucessful as I had hoped. I have tried everything for pain relief and for muscle spasms. All of the medications have side effects, some worse than others. Either way they can be almost as problematic as the pain itself! I tried pot for the first time in about 10 years, and have found great relief without a lot of side effects. I have been a semi-closet smoker. There are a few people who know I smoke and I have never brought it up with my doctors. I have had a lot of negative experiences with some doctors. I have a good pain specialist that I have had for the past year. I am on methadone with nuerontin and morphine for breakthrough pain usually at night and doxipin for those really bad sleepless nights. I sleep for an hour then Im awake for a while then I fall asleep for another hour or so, this goes on all night, just about every night. I say just about because when I can afford some smoke I sleep very well. Unlike sleeping pills that zonk you out and you stay in one position for about 4 hours, waking up feeling like a 2X4. When I smoke I sleep very well and I move around during the night and I wake up feeling refreshed and rested. The sleeping pills leave me groggy and with "medicine head". I was in Vancouver last year and met Hilary briefly. She gave me an information pack and answered a few questions but I am now residing in Alberta and I had just started on methadone and I needed a pain killer that I would have a constant, regular supply that I could get through my insurance plan. With the recent developments in the legal system and the medical community and from literature that has been provided via The Compassion Club and this site as well as a few others has made me decide to discuss this with my specialist. I am hoping that he will support my decision but if he doesn't that won't change my mind. The way I see it if they want to toss me into jail for a little bit of refer then the jokes on them as it will cost them much more to put me through the system than any big problem to me. I can't work anyway and my income is just below welfare so what are they going to acomplish? I moved to Red Deer two and a half years ago so I don't know many people because even going for a beer with the boys is more of a chore than a good time. You don't meet many people that way! If I were a cop and busted someone in my present situation then I would be afraid the other cops would be laughing at me for the smallest fish ever caught! HAHA We have to get together and fight for our rights. |

Police had raided Wes Winchester's home in September, and seized 96 pot plants. 'Too much victimization of the weakest people in our society' Winchester, 39, is asking the judge to dismiss the case. Winchester has AIDS and three types of hepatitis. He says he needs marijuana to keep down the three dozen pills he takes every day. "That way I can eat," he says. "It's provided me an ability to maintain my weight." Winchester has a prescription from a B.C. doctor for marijuana, but still can't buy it at a pharmacy. He says he doesn't want to pay dealers for the drug, so he grows it himself. Brian Carlisle, who ran for the Marijuana Party in the federal election, says seriously ill people need better access. "If you have a prescription, you should go to the pharmacy, period. This is too much danger, too much stress and too much victimization of the weakest people in our society," says Carlisle. | comments | Hello Allison (and others helped out by MJ)! I'm a 33 year old living with dystonia now for 11 years. The one thing that does offer help with acceptable side effects is marijuana. I find it to be a wonderful 'coping mechanism'. It does not make my dystonia ST(a neuro-muscular movement disorder) go away, but does help to elieviate some of my stiffness, and to a lesser extent, some of the tremourous feelings (and actions) that accompany me through-out this 'dystonic journey'. I spend most of my time in search of comfort. This involves constantly re-adjusting pillows and my posture (most of which involves laying down a majority of the time). I recently adopted the use of a vaporizer as my only means of THC delivery after reading about carbons and their effects on lung / throat tissue. The prognosis of my case is that the dystonia will (and already is) progress mildy over time. I am on disabilty as it is very difficult to try and keep up with the 'regular world' as my muscles leave me literally 'couch bound' or in bed. I am going to apply for a section 56 exemption as I feel I'm a good canidate for acceptance. Thanks for helping to show how useful marijuana can be, and doing so in a positive light. Roy |

| comments | hi.. im sorry to know about your pain.. i hate pain but i love smoking weed. two years ago i was diagnosed with Hep C apparently i had it 4 about ten years!with 15 max left...im 33..i went on a course of interferon injections thrice weekly and 56 tablets a week of rebatol and then as you well know the tons of pain killers the side affects of the medication is Ruff to say the least ...i'm a single dad with 2 children 12 \ 9.and for days at a time i couldnt even get off the sofa. i found that not so much as a pain killer in the conventional sense but smoking shit hot skunk like you say... (all day at regular intervals eh eh)makes u unable to naturally register the pain because your so stoned you dont remember too! and there for the pain gets lost in amongest all the other crap that means nothing when your high. so thats what i reckon! but i have good news...ive been on the medication for 7 months now and my last blood test just came back....NEGATIVE.. check that out! but i have to keep up the medication for another 5 months and smoke for the rest of my life still ha.ha. i hpe your mission comes to fruitition or what ever...check out my site www.ozjim.co.uk im going to be putting some interesting storys and shit on there . may the bud be with you. jim@ozjim.co.uk |

| comments | I attended a Rally Saturday afternoon on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Not your average protest by any means.It was organized by Exemptee Rick Reimer.Rick had been waiting patiently for the election to be called so that he could strategically coincide the two.So two days before a federal election we were blessed with a beautiful sunny day to celebrate our Herb on the steps of parliament. Sadly the event was not as well attended as it should have been. Although in my mind it was Woodstock 3.The sweet,endearing Renne Boje had been flown in.Yes Virginia, there are still flower children! Fellow exemptees and many other speakers spoke freely from their hearts on issues of medicine, decriminalization and legalization.Eugene Oscapella,Larry Duprey,Loren Wiberg,,,All the speakers were amazing. Musicians played and sang all day.Kids danced and laughed .Ganja flowed, the air sweet and diversly aromatic.Kind souls shared their herb and passed "cheech and chong" sized bombers up to the steps of parliament for us to enjoy. After sparking them cannons up, on those steps, I think i died and went to heaven,, self actualized :) The previous night,Exemptee Alicine Myrden and myself had the gang to our hotel room where we filled little packets with thousands of cannabis seeds to distribute. These were very graciously donated by exemptee Rob Brown.It was wondrous.Thousands and thousands of plants will germinate... plants will grow and the day will live on. For 30 years I ducked the police and their mandate to eradicate drug use.Twenty eight years ago they criminalized me for a "nickel bag" of weed.One yr.ago I became one of the first Canadians to acquire exemption from prosecution to grow and use cannabis for medicinal purposes.Yesterday I walked onto Parliament Hill with a plant.A female "Dutch Treat".This little girl was now a T.V.star!! Thurs.23rd she monopolized "Mike Bullards" mono-log on the CTV comedy show OPEN MIKE.He spotted her in the third row and the fun began.Loren Wiberg, the gentleman with the "Diefenbunker Proposal" to grow cannabis for the Gov't was holding her,and man,it was a chuckle.From a T.V. star she became an exhibit of sorts on the HILL. Until the plant became a criminal that is.Three or Four RCMP officers arrested me and my plant.I was in the middle of an interview with Global News,and perhaps that may have prevented them from taking me away.Had I not the responsibility as care-provider for my friend Alicine,I would not have agreed to put the plant back in my car.For the benefit of the event,I satisfied their need for authority and control.I want to inform the tax payer that all was safe.Two RCMP officers were posted for 6 hrs to "guard" my car. The following day I decided as long as the police tried to criminalize me and my plant,that before i left the capital,I should surrender my fugitive T.V. star.The Ottawa Sun was there to witness.Alison and I walked her up to the desk sargent at police headquarters.He was verbally insulting calling us idiots and pulled down the shade on his window like he was closing for lunch. Alas,that is where i left the well traveled "Dutch treat".Don't laugh,I felt bad leaving her with those thugs to kill.The symbolism of my surrendering it was inspired by the previous days attempt at the RCMP illegally trying to arrest me and confiscate my medicine.Something that has been a horrific fact of life for tens of thousands of honest Canadian citizens for way, way too long. Before my dream come true day was finished there was an incident that I am very dissapionted with. Mark-Boris St.Maurice, the leader of the Marijuana Party of Canada, was invited to attend and share his viewpoints.Much like I had been volunteering to do for his party champagne events in Toronto..I certainly didn't show up and attempt to commit a juvenile act of public mischief to get my message out. Common sense might suggest that simply plays into the stereo-typical profile of an "irresponsible pot-head" Something thats been used to keep us down for far too long.It's no big deal.So Mark got arrested pieing himself in the face.What bugs me is that he got what he wanted. The Ottawa Citizens coverage on our Rally focused on his stupidity rather than the purpose or message we intended.I'm sure he confirmed some peoples fears of what a public threat a person must be under the influence of cannabis.These are Alicine Myrdens' and my own personal opinions.There is a time and a place.This was not his to discredit.Enough said. | comments | My husband suffers from an eating disorder and post traumatic stress from Vietnam. He uses marijuana to eat and to help with his anxiety which causes his whole digestive system to spasm. He was a front line combat medic in Nam and saw gore like you would not believe. Average life span for these medics was 3 seconds; he made it 18 months. He just got busted this past summer for growing 23 plants, 1/2 of which were only 2 feet tall. We have a medical marijuana law, but the cops seem to ignore it. I am disable with spinal arthritis and he is disabled due to his condition, as it almost killed him 20 years ago. No doctor could figure out why he could not swallow food and he had a bleeding ulcer. Acid continued to pump into his stomach. He and I are both 52 years old and want to live out our lives in peace. Pot is the only thing that allows him to eat. Without it, he must be downed out on massive drugs. If he tells anyone he smokes pot, like the Veterans Admins., they want to put him in drug treatment. Don't they understand, marijuana IS the treatment. Just had to sound off to someone who understands. Take care of yourselves. You sound like wonderful people. It would seem in Canada, there are many compassion clubs to help you; I see them all the time on the internet. After some inquiring, I found that they all had the same restrictions for growing no matter what there need is. Do you have a mandate or mission statement? The news from Lorin the other day about the march on Parliament on Nov. 25, was the 1st I'd heard of it. Your mission appears to be the same as our newly formed Cannabis Resource Society. I brought up the Nov. 25 event at the board meeting last night and we are interested in more information. Are you the person organizing this event? Our Board of Directors discussed how we could help our, since our mandates appear to be alike, through mutual support. We discussed the possibility of sending 1 or more exemptees from Edmonton to Ottawa or possibly arranging an event here to co-incide with yours. The Board of Director, of which I am secretary, is meeting again on Saturday and are looking forward to any information you send to me, which I will pass on to them. There is power in numbers. The more voices heard, the better.The government has to change the current marijuana laws to take into account medical use. This new law must be enacted by August 1, 2001. | comments | After I got hit by a truck on my motorcycle, I was prescribed Tylenol 3 with codeine. These "pain killers" were weak and didn't help my aching ankle. My friends told me about cannabis and after taking a couple puffs off of a water pipe, the pain in my ankle was reduced so much I could have forgotten that it was broken! Marijuana is a wonderful natural form of medicine that has been a strong part of many cultures, including Rastafarianism. If the United States allows freedom of religion, how can marijuana stay illegal? Rastafari's smoke marijuana for religious reasons. Rick,like myself,is federally exempt to grow/carry/use cannabis for medicinal use.There are now 72 of us legal to do so in Canada. Medicinal marijuana use is now a constitutional right that is here to stay.Credit for that goes out to many.All have sacrificed so much to get this far.People like Jim Wakeford,Terry Parker,Prof Alan Young, to name a few "heros". Medical marijuana has managed to get its foot in the door a crack.It has forced the gov't of Canada to examine and rewrite existing marijuana laws,as our courts now recognize these laws as unconstitutional and inappropriate.It's a beginning ,but buy no means close to legalization or a satisfactory reform of the drug laws. 60,000 people in this country were charged with cannabis related offenses last year.75% of them were for simple possession.A small fine at best,but a criminal record is attached.Some very sick and disabled medicinal users were given the "right but no remedy" .Given a prescription with no place to fill it,save the underground or the street. Thats "when" it can be afforded.Police still arrest our care-givers and intercept our medicine in the mails. This rally is a fantastic opportunity to bring some real attention to our battles.Two days before a national federal election is just perfect.Especially with Canadians going to the polls having an opportunity to mark an X on the ballot for the "Federal Marijuana Party." So come on everybody.Lets rave the capital:) Dig a little deeper and find your way to parliament hill and show the gov't and the Canadian people that we are for real ,and that their drug laws should not be. I'm shocked that a compassionless gov't has yet too assist the sick and dissabled.That we need to get out of our sick beds,,fund ourselves and fight for our rights in the courts.I'm appauled at the treatment of the Federal exemptees by Health Canada.And of their continued "back patting" over their perceived compassionate access. I'm painfully dissapointed at their refusal to deal with an immediate medical supply to the people they have exempted. As of October 25, 2000, we are now official !! ;o) Thank you all so much for your support in this very serious Health Care Issue. We, as Canadian citizens, have the right to a pain-free and completely normal quality life when choosing to use Marijuana as Medicine. I can only hope that other Countries will soon follow suit and allow THEIR citizens to CHOOSE the Medication that works best for their ailment. Marijuana is now my ONLY choice. As many of you have heard, I have been very under the weather for the last three months. I am just now starting to come around again and am a little slow at answering all of your e-mails. I will try to get to them all soon. My heart is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from all over the world. It is amazing what people can achieve when they have a common goal. Thank you. It is because of all of you that we have made it this far !!! My reason for writing is to explain the reason I am not doing as well. The Grower who has this particular strain of Marijuana, (there are literally HUNDREDS of different types - if not more !) has decided to grow again after taking a few months off. Apparently they did not realize only THEIR strain can help me so far. I am still trying to convince this person to give me something to grow from it, but they KNOW they have a gold-mine. This strain, I believe is very high in THC from what I am told. (23%) That means I need to smoke (ingest) less of this Marijuana, for the same relief as I would smoke MORE of another. I also have incredibly more PAIN RELIEF from this strain. My leg spasms disappear with the "stronger" strains, my bladder problems have all gone. Incredible. All strains seem to work for Nausea. Others take different strains. What a confusing situation for ANYONE to be in !????! This is WHY we need the Government of Canada to help us ! We need a Source ! See what I am having trouble with now ? If only I could reproduce this same strain !! I hate being this sick ALL OF THE TIME !! I have a life I want to lead !! Can't someone out there help me with my problem ??!! I want to be back to talk to everyone and tell all of the new Marijuana News, but I just can't do it. I am either in EXCRUCIATING PAIN, falling asleep, getting sick, or "completely comatose" as my mother says... What kind of life is that for a 36 year old, often times funny, happy-go-lucky chicklet ?? Other than this stupid pain in my face and the MS - I am totally healthy. Okay, so I'm not. Who Cares ?? I think I am and that's all that matters !! I will beat MS one way or another - You can bet on that !! I may have MS, but MS doesn't have me !! I recently found that NOT ONLY the Evening Primrose Oil that I have been taking for the last 9 years BUT ALSO the Marijuana I have been smoking for the last 7 years are both LOADED with GLA (Gamma Linolec Acid). This is an ESSENTIAL component (?) for people with Multiple Sclerosis !! GLA is found in your Spinal Fluid when Doctors do a Spinal Tap. In people with MS, the GLA is low or non-existent. Evening Primrose Oil, Borage, Black Currant AND HEMP are all excellent sources of Gamma Linolec Acid. I think, as do my Doctors now, that I have been CURING myself for the last 9 years !! I have done nothing but get BETTER in the last few years. I can honestly say also, that when I smoke the "Right" Marijuana, the pain in my face is more bearable AND for longer periods of time ! GLA has also been PROVEN to help with pain relief somehow. The Studies ARE being done. I truly cannot believe how lucky I have been to have a Mother who cared enough to never stop trying to make one of her children better. My Mother, Joyce, introduced me to a man a number of years ago who has been helping me to get this Evening Primrose Oil at a fairly decent price, thank goodness because it can be costly. I, do not find that, as my Health is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to me. I AM WORTH IT ! I now KNOW this is making me better !! I can't wait to tell EVERYBODY !! I also believe that Vitamin B12 has been spoken of to halt the progression of Multiple Sclerosis. I have been taking that also for years.
